Recipe #43: Chocolate Covered Pretzels

Since we have been trying to eat healthier we have had to sacrifice some of our favorite snack foods. But we still crave chocolate and snack foods just like any other person. So even though we have pretty much stopped buying chips and candy we have replaced those items with nuts and pretzels.  For us, it seems, that by snacking in moderate portions also helps curve our appetites. Therefore we are finding that we do not overeat as often during normal meal times.

But I've also come to realize that when I'm snacking I have wanted a sweet counterpart. I think that is pretty normal, too. So I decided to cover the pretzels in chocolate. Personally this is a lot more appetizing to me! Plus, we just spent a good deal of cash at Dick's Sporting Goods on discounted work-out clothes and accessories. So these chocolate covered pretzels will be a nice incentive and reward for us after a long hard workout! You have to have a balance, right?

Ingredients:

* 1 bag of Snyder's Pretzel Rods
* 6.8 oz of Dark Chocolate

Cooking Directions:

Place a long piece of parchment paper onto a baking sheet. (Make sure there is enough room in your refrigerator to hold the baking sheet.)

Bring a medium pot of water to a simmer.

Place a cooking bowl over the top of the pot so that it heats without having any water on the inside.

Pour the solid pieces of chocolate into the cooking bowl and let the simmering water underneath the cooking bowl melt the chocolate.

Remove from the heat and dip the pretzels into the melted chocolate.

Place the pretzels on the parchment paper and then place in the refrigerator so the chocolate will solidify around the pretzels.
