Recipe #52: Sausage with Bell Peppers and Onion

One of the downsides to living in an apartment is the "no grill" rule. I've had to depend a lot on my oven and crock pot for any meats I would usually grill. And even though I love my George Foreman I really only use it for pressed sandwiches. It's hard to beat char-grilled flavor, as I'm sure you can agree, so it has been a challenge. When I found this instructional guide: http://www.kitchenproject.com/german/Bratwurst/stovetop.htm I was willing to try it out since I couldn't enjoy grilling in this beautiful weather.

This is such a great summer meal that even without the grill I think you'll be really happy with this modification. It's definitely not a healthy choice by any means though so if you're counting your calories you really don't want to count these...at all. We usually have to wait until the State Fair or go to a larger city to visit the street vendors in order to enjoy these. But now I don't have to be patient! (That's probably not the lesson I should have learned in all of this...)

Ingredients:

* 1 package of Hot Italian Brats (5 pack)
* 1 large Green Pepper
* 1 large White Onion
* Brat Buns
* Spicy Mustard

Cooking Directions:

In a medium sauce pan place a 1/2 inch of water into the pan before adding the brats.

On medium heat let the brats cook in the water until the water is almost evaporated.

On a cutting board chop the onion and the green pepper.

Add these ingredients to the pan and cook until tender.

Place the sausage and the cooked onions and pepper in a brat bun.

Drizzle the mustard over the top and serve immediately.
