Personally I think this film is a great depiction of the modern day amateur. We all know that the Internet has changed the world for good seeing that anyone can research and explore anything they want. In today's society this means that even if you are not a so called, "professional", you can still put yourself out there (in cyberspace, so to speak) and transform yourself into a somebody.
For myself, and many others just like me, we did not go to school to be chefs nor did we major in writing. But boy oh boy do we keep trying to cook everything that looks like it would taste amazing (even if it doesn't). And we just keep writing about all of these amazing cooking ventures just like Julie Powell did about Julia Child's recipes.
Well to move forward with all of this Julie and Julia talk I cannot keep my mouth from watering when I watch this movie. Believe me, I would love to attempt one of Julia Child's French recipes but Lord knows I am just an amateur right now and I am going to need a bit more practice. One meal that always looks so delicious is one of the recipes made at the beginning of the movie. It has fresh bell peppers, crusty french bread, and fresh sausage. Yuuuuuum! I've been wanting to make this since the day I saw this movie, which has been about 3 years ago now...
Ingredients:
* 1 lb of Chicken Pork Sausage (Mild)
* 4 Bell Peppers (Red, Yellow, and Orange)
* 1 bunch of Fresh Parsley
* 4 Cloves of Garlic
* Extra Virgin Olive Oil
* 1 Loaf of Crusty French Bread
* 2 Tbsp of Lime Juice
Cooking Directions:
On a cutting board mince the garlic and fresh parsley.
Then chop the bell peppers.
In a large frying pan add about 2 1/2 Tbsp of the olive oil over medium heat.
Add the bell peppers and cook until lightly softened.
Add the garlic and the fresh parsley and cook for about 1 minute before removing from the heat.
In another large frying pan add the fresh sausage and 2 tablespoons of olive oil and water.
Cook over medium heat and then remove from heat. Place the cooked sausage on a serving plate.
On the cutting board slice the french bread.
In the empty frying pan add enough olive oil to coat the pan and heat on medium heat.
When the oil is hot add the slices of french bread and cook until both sides are toasted.
Remove from the heat and on a serving plate add the slices of toasted french bread.
Cover the bread slices with the bell pepper medley and then pour the lime juice over the top.
Serve with the sausage on the side.
