Recipe #77: Homemade Blackberry Jam

The end of summer is coming quickly and as much as I am really looking forward to some cooler weather I will miss the fresh fruits. One of my favorite fruits are blackberries and tonight I realized we really haven't eaten that many of them this season. So while they are still in their peak I wanted to do something different than usual.

I found a great and easy recipe from: http://kitchentrialanderror.blogspot.com/2010/08/blackberry-jam-blackberry-syrup.html and I was happy to see that for homemade jam I only needed two ingredients. There are several other recipes that require the ingredient, pectin, but I could not find it anywhere in the grocery store. Pectin will help congeal the jam into the jelly-like consistency but this recipe I found does not require it. So I made me some jam and it was good!

Ingredients:

* 12 oz of Blackberries
* 2/3 cup of Sugar

Cooking Directions:

Combine both ingredients in a medium sauce pan.

Over medium high heat bring the berries and sugar to a boil.

Use the back of a spoon to crush the heated berries.

Let lightly boil for about 10 minutes and then remove from heat and place in a jar.
