Recipe #73: Frisco Melt

I did not realize that Steak and Shake restaurants were predominantly in the Midwest region. Throughout the years they've really expanded their chain of restaurants however the cluster of them are primarily within this region. Now anyone who has been to a Steak and Shake will know that the food is pretty decent; the meat is greasy and their chili is not what you'd call heart healthy. But their consistency in service and the fun atmosphere really brings folks back into their restaurants again and again.

One of our favorite sandwiches is the Frisco Melt, which is never good for you but it is always delicious every time we visit. Even though we decided to stay in tonight does not mean that we were not in the mood to eat one of these sandwiches. So we bought the ingredients to make this at home and our version was a near-perfect replica. If we had added some milkshakes into the mix then I think we would have really had the full experience. Alas, the sandwiches were filling enough and I was very satisfied with our version.

Ingredients:

* 2 Patties, 1/4 lb each
* Romaine Lettuce
* 1 large Tomato
* 1/4 small White Onion
* Wheat Bread
* Provolone
* 2 Tbsp of Yogurt Thousand Island Dressing
* 2 Tbsp of Mayonnaise
* 2 Tbsp of Horseradish
* 2 Tbsp of Ketchup
* Butter

Cooking Directions:

On a cutting board slice the tomato and the onion.

On the George Foreman add the hamburger patties and cook over medium to drain the majority of the fat.

Mix the thousand island dressing, the mayonnaise, the horseradish, and the ketchup together.

Take the 4 slices of bread and spread butter on each piece.

In a medium frying pan spray with non-stick spray and over medium heat add each slice of bread.

Add the burgers and the onion, tomato, and lettuce to 2 of the bread slices.

Spread some of the dressing onto the other two slices of bread and place a slice of provolone cheese over the top.

Then flip the piece of bread with the cheese and the dressing over the top of the piece of bread with all of the burger ingredients.

Press and flip to flatten each sandwich.

Remove from the heat and slice in half.
